INDUSTRY LEADERS MOURN SEO IN PRIVATE CEREMONY
The Deliverable Search Desk
PALO ALTO, CA — Leaders from across the AI industry gathered Tuesday to celebrate the life of Search Engine Optimization, better known to friends as "SEO" which passed away recently after 17 years of service to the internet.
Among those in attendance were representatives from Anthropic, Corporate America, OpenAI, Perplexity, and approximately 400 LinkedInfluencers who changed their LinkedIn headline from "AI Search Expert" sometime after lunch.
Google was notably absent, having announced that SEO was both “dead” and “more important than ever” in the same keynote.
The memorial featured several symbolic traditions, including a ceremonial deindexing, a 21-click salute, and the lowering of a canonical tag to half-mast.
The ceremony opened with a moving eulogy entitled 'Content Is Dead,' immediately followed by a workshop on scaling AI-generated blog posts.
“I’ll never forget when title tags mattered,” said one attendee, pausing to ask ChatGPT where he parked his car.
A moment of silence was observed for every article that began with the phrase, “In today’s fast-paced digital landscape...”
The silence lasted nearly 45 minutes.
Several mourners became visibly emotional after discovering their grief had been rewritten into ten engaging bullet points optimized for AI Overviews.
At the reception, guests enjoyed light refreshments, networking opportunities, and a panel discussion titled “Is SEO Really Dead This Time?”, the 47th annual installment of the series.
Funeral organizers confirmed that the event was sponsored by seventeen AI visibility platforms, each of which released independent research concluding they were now the future of search.
The official cause of death remains disputed. Initial reports cited AI Overviews, Reddit, TikTok, and changing user behavior, though the coroner later amended the report to simply read, “It depends.”
In a surprise twist, several attendees reported seeing SEO alive and well moments after the ceremony concluded, where it was spotted accepting a Senior Director of AI Search Optimization position at a Fortune 500 company.
“We’re devastated,” said one executive. “But we’re also incredibly excited to announce our new Generative Search Optimization™ practice.”
Shares of agencies offering GEO, AEO, LLMO, AI SEO, AI Visibility, Answer Engine Optimization, and whatever the next acronym becomes rose sharply following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the form of venture capital.
